SAFEGUARDING
WHAT SAFEGUARDING MEANS TO US
At Bromley Phoenix, the safety and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults is paramount. We are fully committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for everyone involved in our club.
Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. The safety and welfare of our players always comes first. We are committed to creating an environment where every player feels valued, respected and protected.
We have a zero tolerance policy for any form of abuse, bullying, neglect or behaviour that could cause harm. If something doesn’t feel right, we speak up, we act and we put the well-being of our players before anything else. This also includes a firm stance against unsportsmanlike behaviour from our visitors, parents or any person interacting with Bromley Phoenix, as we expect everyone to contribute to a positive and respectful environment.
Safeguarding is a shared commitment. Coaches, volunteers, parents, carers and players all have an essential role to play in keeping the players at our club safe. By looking out for each other and following our safeguarding policy, we can all ensure Bromley Phoenix is a place where everyone can thrive.
We follow the official safeguarding guidance of Basketball England, UK Coaching, and the NSPCC. When necessary, we work closely with local authorities to ensure any concerns are handled quickly and effectively.
how we keep players safe
We ensure that reporting any concern or incident is straightforward, confidential, and always treated with the utmost seriousness. Whether it’s a clear incident or simply a gut feeling that something isn’t right, we listen, we respond, and we act quickly to protect our players and make sure they feel safe and supported at all times.
Every member of our coaching team, staff, and volunteer network is carefully recruited using safe practices. Background checks and regular training are mandatory for all our staff. This ensures that everyone working with our players understands their responsibilities and knows how to protect and support our young players.
We actively promote respect, fairness, and inclusion both on and off the court. Every player, regardless of their background, ability, or experience, is welcomed and treated with kindness and dignity. Discrimination, harassment, or poor sportsmanship have no place here.
Our coaches work hard to create positive, pressure-free playing environments where players can enjoy the game and develop at their own pace. We understand that good mental health can boost confidence, strengthen resilience, and improve decision-making. Just as physical safety is essential, so too is emotional wellbeing. That’s why we focus on encouragement and patience and prioritise the welfare of our players, helping them build the skills and mindset they need to handle challenges both on and off the court.
