Creating pathways beyond the game

shaping future leaders

At Bromley Phoenix Basketball Club, we’re committed to developing players, coaches, officials and volunteers in an inclusive and supportive environment. Our aim is to build confidence, grow skill and create a stronger basketball community.

We actively support our members in gaining Basketball England qualifications in table officiating, refereeing, and coaching. Upskilling people within our club not only strengthens Bromley Phoenix but also contributes to the growth and sustainability of the wider basketball community.

table officiating

We want to develop our members and those involved at the club to become Table Officials. Becoming a qualified official is a fantastic way to deepen understanding of the game. Each season, the Club funds a cohort to obtain the relevant Table Officiating qualification, ensuring essential roles are covered across all of our games.

The Club funds this through a combination of Club financial input and/or external funding with opportunities available for both junior and senior members.

  1. Gain Practical Insight: Before or during the online course, we ask aspiring officials (especially junior members) to volunteer for at least two games observing our Senior games to gain practical, real-world experience.

  2. Course Reimbursement: The Club covers the qualification fee. This cost will be fully reimbursed once the participant has completed the online qualification and successfully officiated three games for the Club.

  3. Paid Opportunities: After successfully completing the Level 1 award and officiating three games at the club, members then have the opportunity to get paid to officiate games at Bromley Phoenix.

We are conscious of our young members’ school and social commitments, so we plan volunteering and officiating opportunities flexibly. Our Safeguarding Lead, Anneke Deters, will liaise with players and parents to ensure our volunteers have the support needed to complete the qualification.
