Andy Roser
Background
Andy’s basketball journey began at the start of secondary school, where his passion and talent for the game quickly stood out. He earned five Kent County Cups, a National Championship title by Year 11, and helped lead his team to an unbeaten tour in Canada. By 16, Andy was playing National League basketball with the Sevenoaks Suns at both U16 and U18 levels.
As a young player, Andy attended multiple camps at Syracuse University in the U.S., where he sharpened his skills and developed a love for coaching—deeply influenced by mentors he still keeps in touch with today. This foundation has shaped Andy’s coaching philosophy: a strong emphasis on fundamentals, with a commitment to teaching players not just how to play, but why each skill matters. He is a certified Level 3 coach.
Andy has made his mark in coaching with success at Ravens Wood School, guiding teams to Kent County titles and deep runs in the National Schools Cup. He also led a sixth-form team on a successful tour of Spain, finishing undefeated, including a thrilling triple-overtime win. Beyond school basketball, Andy had a brief coaching stint with the U14 National League side at Medway Park Crusaders (now Kent Crusaders). He also served as team manager and assistant coach for the South-East England U17 squad during the regional tournament, further broadening his coaching experience.
At the age of 20, Andy joined Bromley Fury’s first team, competing in the Medway League. Andy has continued to play in the first team up until the end of the 2024-25 season. Beyond the court, he took on administrative roles, serving as club secretary and driving the growth of the club. Andy introduced a third men’s team in 2016 to the club, helping to provide more playing opportunities and broaden the club’s competitive presence. In 2018, he launched the club’s junior programme that proved to be extremely popular. The programme has expanded year after year.
Andy is also a qualified Level 2 referee, and regularly officiated local league, schools and junior national league games, with additional experience at the men’s and women’s national league level.
In recent years
Andy focused his attention on competing for Bromley Fury’s 1st team alongside his other passion of cycling.
Now, as co-founder of Bromley Phoenix Basketball Club, Andy brings his deep passion and experience to building a programme where players grow not only as athletes but as individuals.
